It was hot, it was dusty. The show started mid-afternoon after a long haul and a late night at the show in Austin on 7/31. Jerry looked like he was melting from the heat on that stage.

it was August in Oklahoma, the stage faces west into sundown. About 1/2 way thru the 1st set sun was waning. 2nd sets,with stage lights. Great show!

It was 33 years ago and my memory's a bit hazy. I remember it was hot (but wasn't there one little raincloud that showed up for a few minutes?), and the Heads conga-dancing through the trees during China Cat.

The worst show I ever had fun at!

The night before in Manor, TX was insane - they were ON. (Not good; not great... ON!) The show went past midnight (first time in ages) so the crowd spontaneously sang Happy Birthday to Jerry (it was now August 1 -- Jerry's birthday.)

Apparently the band stayed up late to party in Texas because the next day the equipment trucks pass us on the highway on the way to the gig in Oklahoma City. They're not in town yet? Uh-oh.

The sign on the gate in OK stated "2 p.m. show postponed to 3 p.m." Then 4 p.m. They finally took the stage around 6 p.m. on the verge of death. Phil towel-drying his soaking wet hair like he just woke up and stepped out of the shower. Billy taking hits from a tank of oxygen (???).

They played the easiest songs they could. My buddy called it in advance: "They'll do Iko Iko because it's easy to play and everyone who skipped the Texas show and then drove all the way from Colorado on 'Jerry's Birtheday' will think they saw something special." Yup.

On the rail there are people screaming: "Jerry! JERRY! WE BAKED YOU A CAKE!" Indeed they had -- one of those Betty Crocker cakes that comes with its own aluminum foil pan.

The entire crowd sings Happy Birthday to Jerry. He stares at his shoes and does not look up, then leans over the amps where magical lines of white powder await.
